Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of this church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. Church members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as washing the church vehicles, to preparing the church bulletins.

Mission Outreach
  • Laotian Ministry:  Under the direction of Rev. Dr. James Oudom, our church has offered a ministry for years. Every Sunday, a Sunday School class is offered to our Laotian members in their own language.  Hymn books and Bibles in the Lao language are also provided.
  • Sharing and Caring:  The Sharing and Caring Place offers food, clothing, emergency financial assistance, and medical assistance to hundreds of needy families in our community.  Sharing and Caring is co-sponsored by over 20 local churches.  Many First Presbyterian members volunteer their services to this needed cause.
  • Habersham Christian Learning Center:  HCLC is an educational extension to our local high school.  Under the time release program students are allowed to attend classes at the Center and receive high school credit.  These classes are taught from a holistic approach, keeping mind, body and spirit together.  In addition to these classes, another important aspect of the Center is personal and family counseling.  A well qualified team of counselors provides a great service to our community.  To visit HCLC’s website, please click here.
  • The Presbyterian Emergency Fund:  Under the direction of the Pastor and church members Carolyn Denton and Gene Schaefer, the Presbyterian Emergency Fund is a source of emergency financial help for our members and the community at large.
  • The Lord’s Help Soup Kitchen:  the Soup Kitchen serves nutritious meals during lunch through the week. Many First Presbyterian members (adult and youth) volunteer their time to this outreach service.

Music & Drama

God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music and drama ministry. Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. Others are involved in the choir. Still others get involved in drama. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of our church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God.

Ushers & Greeters

The usher/greeter team at our church fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher/greeter team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.

Media & Technology

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of this church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. All of our weekly sermons are uploaded to our website in video and audio formats. We also maintain an active Facebook and Twitter feed for additional church communication.
